LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Lima City Council members are trying to teach kids about financial responsibility at their annual Halloween party. Derry Glen will host its annual event at Hover Park on October 27th. There will be candy for the kids and hot dogs for those who come. But in addition to candy, Derry Glen hands out savings bonds to the few kids who earn the best costume or highest GPA on their final report card. Glenn said she wants to add teachable moments during the event, and the savings bonds help kids learn financial responsibility.
“I’m going to issue 15 savings bonds for Halloween. I’m going to educate my kids, so it’s great to take them out. More or less, this is trick-or-treating, so the best dressed kids We’re going to give out bonds to the kids who got the highest GPAs, so we’re going to give them a bond. But we’re starting something new and the committee.
