October is a fun and busy month. From football to fall festivals to trick-or-treating events, there are a variety of events happening throughout Norman and Cleveland County. Norman Farm Market, located at The Well, 210 S. James Garner Avenue in Norman, is stocking everything from decorative pumpkins and pie pumpkins to delicious pumpkins, sweet potatoes, and many other seasonal products perfect for fall and festivals. We’ve already talked about how it’s a great place to find everything. .
Today I thought I would answer some frequently asked questions about buying and selling at the Norman Farm Market.
Q: Is there still a Tuesday night market?
A: The Tuesday market runs from April to July. The season ends on Tuesday, although it has been extended a few more weeks this year.
Q: When does Norman Farm Market close?
A: Norman Farm Market is open year-round. However, we have two different seasons. The summer market, which begins in April and runs until the end of October, is held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The winter market, which runs from November to the end of March, is held on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm.
Q: How many vendors accept SNAP, Double UP, and Senior Farmers Market nutrition benefits?
A: All vendors selling certified products at the Norman Farm Market accept these benefits under the Cleveland County umbrella. Tokens for the market are purchased inside the main building using reward cards and vendors are reimbursed by the market manager. Please visit each program’s website for more information about which products are subject to its rules.
Q: How do I set up shop at Norman Farm Market?
A: Although we consider applications from farmers throughout the year, distributors typically apply before the summer season and before the winter season. We focus on farmers, growers and producers. Other markets also accept smaller proportions of bakers and crafters. Established vendors in the market will have a chance to be among the first to take up their booths when the new season begins. New vendors are considered based on their market presence and the products they sell.
Q: Why do I see so many crafters and bakers at the winter market?
A: In addition to produce, many farmers also make and sell baked goods and crafts. Especially in winter, the variety of agricultural products is limited. As a small business, they try to make ends meet while providing farm-fresh products year-round.
Q: I raise bees and sell honey. Are you qualified as a farmer?
A: Yes. Farmers grow and produce food (including meat and honey) and value-added products. Examples of value-added products include jam made from fruit grown by farmers and pickles made from cucumbers grown by farmers.
Q: What other types of vendors make up a farmer or grower?
A. Growers grow plants from seeds in order to sell them or process them into other products, such as growing herbs to make tea. We have goat farmers who raise goats, milk them, and make soap and other skin care products from their milk. People who grow and sell cut flowers and ornamental plants also qualify as farmers or growers.
