Brooklyn quartet My Son the Doctor have released the video for their new single “Barry Bonds.” This track is an independent single and the first release on the label Trash Casual Records.
The group is made up of childhood friends Joel Callow, Matt Nitzberg, Brian Hemmert and their new friend John Mason, and combines loose ’90s rock with post-punk to put on an energetic live show. known. They’ve been wowing audiences since 2019, sharing the stage with the likes of Bodega, Chic, and Native Nitzberg.
“What is this song about? It’s about anxiety,” the band explained about the song. “It’s about looking in the mirror and wanting to be someone bigger than you are. But you’re not that person. That person is Barry Bonds. Three short Jewish boys from Northern California and , for a tall and very sweet New York-born drummer, Barry Bonds embodies everything we don’t see when we look in the mirror: muscle, masculinity, and explosive fame.
“The music video for this song was shot on a DV camera we took with us on a recent tour and consists mostly of captivating footage from the Best Western near St. Lawrence University,” they continue. “We thought it was interesting, but it was fate that we couldn’t get our hands on the six cables needed to transfer the DV tape to a Macbook for editing. It’s in the public domain. Cue the footage. We downloaded a four-hour film from the Prelinger Archives, which happens to be located in San Francisco (home of the namesake himself), and even more fortunately, in Binghamton. It was a four-hour drive to the show, with guitarist Joel diligently compiling this masterpiece while the rest of the band listened to the Cans, the Hindenburgs, and men wearing plaids and bowling. …There’s something for everyone in these four minutes of fun.”
