If you have purchased Breyers Natural Vanilla in the past 8 years, you may be entitled to cash.
A class action lawsuit was filed earlier this year alleging the company falsely advertised its ice cream as “vanilla,” leading consumers to believe the flavor came only from the vanilla plant. The New York State Supreme Court said in a news release that the ice cream contained vanilla flavor that was not plant-based.
If you purchase Briar’s Natural Vanilla Ice Cream in almost any size between April 21, 2016 and August 14, 2024, you will receive a portion of the settlement.
A list of eligible products can be found here.
Breyers’ parent company, Unilever United States Inc., along with advertised company Conopco Inc., have set up an $8.8 million settlement fund to pay damages, USA Today reported.
Claim forms must be submitted by February 19, 2025. If you have proof of purchase, you can earn $1.00 for each unlimited number of products. If you do not have proof of purchase, you can receive $1.00 each for up to eight products, the news release states.
Each household can submit only one bill.

Breyers denied any wrongdoing despite the settlement, the company said in a statement to the “Today” show.
A company spokesperson said: “While we do not comment on litigation, Briar’s Natural Vanilla is made with naturally derived Rainforest Alliance Certified Vanilla and delivers the quality and taste that people have loved for over 150 years. It’s carefully crafted to do that.” ”
