ALPENA — The Alpena Community College Foundation announced the recent establishment of the Lee M. MacArthur (Mac) MAC Solutions Empowerment Scholarship Fund.
This endowed scholarship fund was established by Lee’s children, son David MacArthur and daughter Jennifer MacArthur, to honor and remember their beloved father, who passed away on June 9, 2024. . Lee was known for his thirst for knowledge and his passion for the tough stuff. His work and his willingness to help everyone who knew him.
The Lee M. MacArthur (Mac) MAC Solutions Empowerment Scholarship Fund was established with a gift of $10,000 to provide scholarships to students pursuing a degree in ACC’s Concrete Technology program. MacArthur was a lifelong Alpena resident and graduate of Alpena High School. He furthered his education at a trade school to become a steam engineer and began his career as a merchant mariner in the U.S. Coast Guard. MacArthur then found fulfillment as a power plant operator at LaFarge until his retirement in 2016.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, MacArthur was also a man of many interests, spending time outdoors hunting ducks, fishing, camping, boating, and ice fishing on Grand Lake. However, his greatest joy was spending quality time with his children, family, and friends.
The ACC Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization run by a volunteer board of 13 community leaders. Since the ACC Foundation’s founding in 1982, a total of $4,382,382 has been awarded to thousands of ACC students.
