EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — There will be several questions on the ballot this election season that involve hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars. KFOX14/CBS4 analyzes these questions before making a selection.
The people of El Paso will face a major bond vote this election season costing hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer dollars. We wanted to help you understand what will appear on your ballot and what a “yes” or “no” vote looks like. ” voting will mean in some of these contests.
County capital improvement bond
The first bond vote is divided into five parts and is called the County Capital Improvement Bond. For the bond, El Paso County is seeking a total of $323.8 million in public property investments, and will decide which portion, if any, is approved.
The first part of Proposition A would approve $95.6 million for county parks and recreation space. A “yes” vote would approve the funding; a “no” vote would remove it from the agenda. Proposition B could raise $26.7 million for the county medical examiner’s office’s facility to investigate the cause and manner of sudden deaths. Unexpected or unexplained deaths within the county. A “yes” vote would approve the funding, and a “no” vote would waive the bond. Proposition C would spend $63.3 million on county courthouses and related facilities. A “yes” vote approves the bill, and a “no” vote ends the proposal. Proposition D would spend $105.5 million to renovate the El Paso County Coliseum, which hosts a variety of entertainment. A “yes” vote approves the bill, and a “no” vote defeats it. Proposition E would authorize $32.7 million for the county’s animal shelter. A “yes” vote would approve funding, and a “no” vote would terminate the bill.
special election
The 2nd Kizuna Election is entitled a special election and is an election regarding a complex entertainment facility. The proposal would cancel $128.4 million worth of remaining debt that would have been used to build entertainment facilities using taxpayer funds. A “yes” vote would effectively cancel the facility, while a “no” vote would leave the issue in limbo.
El Paso County Hospital District Special Election
The third bond item is worth $396 million for University Medical Center, called the El Paso County Hospital District Special Election.
According to officials, the proposal would move in the following directions:
Construction of a burn center. Addition of critical care beds for cardiac patients, a new operating room, and a cardiac catheterization lab. Improving image processing and inspection services.
A “yes” vote would approve funding, and a “no” vote would prevent the bill from becoming law.
