RALEIGH, N.C. (WBTV) – The North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund has received a significant donation from Taiwan, according to the Governor’s Office.
Taiwanese officials visited North Carolina and donated $300,000 to support Helen’s recovery efforts.
“North Carolinians are determined to recover and rebuild from this terrible storm, and we are grateful for the support we are receiving from across the country and around the world,” Governor Cooper said. “It is heartwarming to receive this donation from Taiwan and the support of the Taiwanese people.”
North Carolina is home to the second largest Taiwanese community in the southeastern United States, and there are long-standing economic and cultural ties between North Carolina and Taiwan.
“Taiwan has experienced similar tragedies and understands the deep sense of loss that comes with typhoons and earthquakes. It is this common experience that motivates us to stand in solidarity with the people of North Carolina during this difficult time. ” said Wang Yilong, director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Atlanta.
Donations to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund are now going to nonprofit organizations working to meet the immediate needs of storm victims, including food, water, cleaning supplies, and other emergency supplies.
