Apparently everyone is so focused on the Trump-Harris mess in the election that they missed the Conval School Board’s proposal to spend $44 million on high school capital improvements.
To be honest, I had no idea they were thinking this, but all of a sudden the architect gave a whiteboard, cost estimate, and what must have been a pretty fancy PowerPoint presentation. The construction company didn’t do this for free. I can almost guarantee that.
How did we get here so quickly? And why? What was the trigger? What happens when state funding for CTE increases?Being more informed before you commit can help you follow suit. But with enrollment down 20%, would increasing auditorium seats by 70% cost about $72,000 per seat, or $10 million in total, and be done entirely locally? Will it be paid? That’s a definite no. Don’t even ask.
What’s left? I don’t know either. Improved security? Probably. The rest sounded pretty vague, but I’m always a “no” when it comes to vague parts. However, when I talk about it, it seems that not many people care about this. I’m too worried about what will happen if either presidential candidate wins. If one of them does, your life will hardly change. But if you ignore local politics and trust others to govern responsibly, these things will continue to eat into your wallet. You have no right to complain about your property tax bill. Your indifference allows it to happen.
