LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – The Boy Scouts of America is organizing a special flag retirement ceremony to honor the American flag in a meaningful way.
Aidan, Wyatt, Javier, and Jesús from the Boy Scouts of America shared details about the event. Wyatt said the ceremony will include the proper disposal of flags made of cotton and polyester as part of the Eagle Scout Project.
The ceremony will retire 75 flags collected from drop boxes throughout the city with support from the Laredo community. The U.S. flag presentation ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Camp Huizash on Henry Cuellar Roadway. This event is sponsored by the South Texas Council, Aztec District, Troop 201 United Day School Charter Organization, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9194.
Plans are underway for ROTC units to participate in the ceremony and provide an honor guard, and efforts are underway to find children who will sing the national anthem.
The public is invited to attend this important ceremony, which will be held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. For more information, please contact Troop 201’s Scoutmaster at 956-740-9902.
