WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ – Every year, Halloween displays seem to get a little bigger and more extravagant. But one New Jersey woman is making sure her home is the scariest in her neighborhood while also supporting a good cause.
People come from all over the region to catch a glimpse of the colorful Halloween festivities. But this year it got so big that the owners had to recruit a little help to keep all the spookiness in one place.
“There’s a whole community of Halloween hunters who do things like this, so I’m not the only crazy one!” Vanessa O’Connell commented.
She spends months making sure her exhibit at Trafalgar Court in Washington Township is second to none.
Fourth-grader Harry Aristote exclaimed, “It’s amazing. Even the way she’s set up is amazing.”
“We’re going to start in mid-August and just put up fences and do little things, because it’s just me. So my husband and kids are helping me with the big things,” O’Connell said. ” he explained. , but that’s me. ”
Her son, Rocco Nuzzo, said, “She’s lying. I mean, she doesn’t even have a set time to start. It’s like all year round. I mean, she’s starting something in June. I’ll buy it and set it up.”
It grew so big that a neighbor had to help by offering her home as well. Neighbor Donna Gallagher said, “Normally we don’t put up decorations. We just put a few pumpkins. We’ll put something in the window, but that’s it. So this year we have a lot and it’s fun!” . ”
“They just keep putting out more and more stuff, and when they put it out there and see people’s reactions, it’s like, ‘Oh my god, what did I do?’ So, yeah, it’s a lot of fun.” exclaimed O’Connell.
There’s also plenty of fun to do with the St. Jude Children’s Hospital sign prominently displayed among the ghosts and goblins.
“Sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s bad,” said 6-year-old Hamil Aristote. “Some things are scary, and some things aren’t scary.”
Neighbor Janna Kaven said, “Even if you’re not a neighbor, it’s definitely a shock to see it decorated like this every year. It’s like a showstopper!”
You have plenty of time to check out all the creepy happenings and help St. Jude at the same time. Vanessa won’t take off her decorations until November 2nd.
