Otsego County, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — Vanderbilt Regional Schools in Otsego County wants to step up security.
The district has a $2.4 million bond proposal on the November ballot.
Superintendent David Harwood said the renovations will include new windows and doors with protective film to prevent shatter.
“My job is to ensure the safety of our students and staff, and I never want to put myself at risk to do so. I cannot detail exactly what areas of weakness in this school are. “However, there were several weaknesses in this bond proposal to ensure that all students and staff are safe at all times,” Harwood said.
Other proposed upgrades include new boilers and equipment for the district’s wood mill program.

Vanderbilt Regional Schools of Otsego, Charlevoix and Sheboygan Counties, State of Michigan, shall borrow in the aggregate not to exceed two million four hundred and twenty thousand dollars ($2,420,000) and use its general obligation unrestricted tax bonds for such purposes as It shall be published in one issue or series. : Renovation, refurbishment and re-equipment of school buildings, including improvements to security. The estimated millage on the proposed bond in 2025 is 1.20 mills ($1.20 for every $1,000 of taxable valuation). The maximum number of years that any series of bonds may be issued, excluding redemption, is 20 years. The estimated simple average annual cost to service this bond debt is $1.15 million ($1.15 for every $1,000 of taxable valuation).
