MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot and killed his neighbor for trimming a tree he believed was on his property line, court documents show.
Davis Moturi said he was shot by a neighbor Wednesday afternoon as he was doing yard work outside his home. Moturi’s wife said she found Davis in the fetal position when she returned home from work.

Moturi was taken to Hennepin Healthcare, where doctors discovered a gunshot wound to the back of his neck. Moturi’s condition is stable at this time.
Moturi’s wife said that a neighbor told him the week before, “If you touch my tree again, I’ll kill you.” She went on to say that this was not the first time she had contacted police about her neighbor.
According to court documents, the Moturi couple had had issues with the neighbor since moving into their home in September 2023. The Moturi couple have filed at least 19 police calls against their neighbors, ranging from vandalism to threats of violence.
In another incident, a neighbor allegedly put human urine in their mailbox and was caught on surveillance video using degrading racial language towards the couple.
The man is charged with four counts of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault with intent to cause great bodily harm, stalking and harassment.
The man is not currently in police custody, but is the subject of at least three active warrants for past threats and acts of violence against the Moturi family and other neighbors, according to court documents.
Police said the man had actively evaded police during previous attempts to contact or arrest him.
