HARRISBURG — Finance Secretary Stacey Garrity encouraged seniors and people with disabilities to apply for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program (PTRR) as soon as possible. The deadline is December 31st.
“This year’s property tax/rent rebate program is a huge success,” Garrity said. “We have already made more than 503,000 payments totaling more than $305 million.
“This funding has the potential to make a big difference, especially for Pennsylvanians who are struggling to make ends meet, and thanks to the General Assembly and the Governor’s hard work to expand the program, it will make more of a difference than ever before. Many people are eligible and we encourage those who are eligible to apply as soon as possible.”
The property tax/rent rebate program benefits Pennsylvanians age 65 and older, widows and widowers age 50 and older, and people with disabilities age 18 and older.
The household income limit for the rebate is $45,000 for both homeowners and renters. Claimants can exclude half of their Social Security income. Standard rebates are capped at $1,000.
To date, the Department of the Treasury has processed 504,748 property tax/rent rebate payments totaling $306,761,115. Of these, 279,426 (55.4%) were paid by direct deposit. The rest were paper checks delivered through the U.S. Postal Service.
The Department of Finance will continue to make payments on a rolling basis upon receipt of approved applications from the Department of Revenue.
For more information on eligibility and how to apply, Pennsylvania residents can contact their state legislator, visit the Department of Revenue’s website, or call 888-222-9190. Applications can be submitted online using Revenue’s myPATH system.
