SOUTHERN BEXAR COUNTY – A malnourished horse was rescued from a property in south Bexar County on Tuesday, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office announced in a Facebook post.
According to BCSO, officers were searching for a man involved in the murder.
Upon arriving at the property, they were met by Reyes Vidal Guillen who gave them permission to search the man.
During the search, law enforcement officials said they found a malnourished white horse “lying in a pile of feces without food, water or proper shelter.” They added that the horse showed signs of extreme starvation, with protruding vertebrae, hip bones, dry skin, thinning hair and six open sores all over its body.
When deputies questioned Reyes after the discovery, he stated that he did not own the horse and had given him permission to leave the property, but that the horse’s condition prevented him from leaving.
After further investigation, deputies, with assistance from Bexar County Animal Control, determined that animal abuse existed and arrested Vidal-Guillen. He was charged with cruelty to livestock or animals, which is a state felony.
The horse was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.
BCSO said officers also found multiple stolen horse trailers and travel trailers.
