Triangle voters can choose whether to approve more than $1 billion worth of bonds this year.
The City of Cary is asking voters to decide whether to issue a $590 million bond. The bulk of the money, $560 million, will go toward parks and recreation, including new sports facilities and a new senior center. $30 million will be set aside for affordable housing.
All Wake County voters also have a question on their ballots about whether to approve a $142 million bond to improve the county library.
Durham residents will decide on two bonds worth $200 million. Some people may help build new sidewalks and roads. The other is headed to a new aquatic center and water park on Durham’s east side.
In Orange County, a $300 million bond for Orange County and Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools is on the ballot.
The Town of Chapel Hill also has five bond referendums totaling $44 million for roads, sidewalks, greenways, affordable housing, public buildings and parks. The town would borrow that money without raising property taxes.
Each of the other improvements would raise residents’ property taxes.
