LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced proposed funding from the Biden-Harris administration to Michigan-based manufacturer Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC).
Governor Whitmer said the $325 million directly found will go toward construction of a new facility that is expected to support 180 manufacturing jobs and more than 1,000 construction jobs.
The proposed funding was provided under the CHIPS and Science Act.
“Today, Hemlock Semiconductor, a cutting-edge Michigan company, secured a proposed $325 million investment from the Biden-Harris administration, creating 180 high-wage jobs and expanding the We’ve built a new facility to help manufacture polysilicon, a critical material used in electronics around the world,” Governor Whitmer said. “HSC is one of the many Michigan-based companies leading the future of advanced manufacturing.”
Governor Whitmer said Hemlock Semiconductor is one of the largest manufacturers of ultra-high purity polysilicon and the only company headquartered in the United States. The proposed production facility is expected to increase HSC’s manufacturing capabilities and support Michigan’s semiconductor supply chain.
