Big Shoulders Foundation Northwest Indiana raised approximately $35,000 at the second annual “For the Region” Golf Classic, nearly doubling the amount raised last year. Funds raised at this event will directly support the newly established Founders Advisory Council Scholarships. This scholarship provides critical tuition funding to help Northwest Indiana families receive a high-quality, values-based education at one of Gary Diocese’s 20 schools within Big Shoulders Fund Northwest. “We are very excited to build this tradition in Indiana,” said Dan Kozlowski, executive director of Big Shoulders Foundation Northwest Indiana. “The community has welcomed us with open arms, and it’s incredible to see how much Big Shoulders Foundation Northwest Indiana has grown over the past five years. We look forward to furthering our mission here. We remain dedicated to that, and the funds raised from this event represent another step in that journey.”
In October 2019, Big Shoulders Fund Northwest Indiana was established with a generous gift from Bruce and Beth White of White Lodging and the Dean and Barbara White Family Foundation. For the past five years, Big Shoulders Fund Northwest Indiana’s mission has been to focus on areas of greatest need, supporting students and families to strengthen the capacity of schools and strengthen entire communities. In October 2023, Big Shoulders Fund Northwest Indiana hosted its first “For the Region” Golf Classic, kicking off a new annual tradition.
“We’ve had incredible success hosting the Chicago Golf Classic over the years, and we’re excited to see this replicated in northwestern Indiana,” said Josh Hale, CEO of Big Shoulders Fund. The 2nd Annual Big Shoulders Foundation Northwest Indiana “For the Region” Golf Classic was held at Lost Marsh Golf Club, starting with breakfast and concluding with dinner and recognition for golfers. Attendees enjoyed a series of golf contests, including longest drive and near-to-the-pin competitions, lunch, a cocktail reception, and more.
