The Hillside Branch of the NAACP will celebrate its third anniversary with the Freedom Fund Awards Gala on Friday, November 1, 2024 at the Costa del Sol in Union.
This year’s event, which begins at 8 p.m., will honor eight prominent community members, including the Honorable Congressman Donald Payne Jr.;
Tickets to the gala are $100 and can be purchased from the Hillside NAACP website through Zelle.
“We are excited to celebrate our third anniversary and recognize six outstanding individuals in our community,” said Nicole Graves Watson, founder and president of the Hillside NAACP.
The Hillside NAACP was officially incorporated on October 16, 2021, marking the first time the town has its own chapter.
Since its founding, the chapter has led numerous initiatives, including a Black History Month essay contest for middle school students, scholarships for high school seniors, and educational workshops on important issues such as New Jersey’s Amistad law, gun violence, and voter rights. I’ve been doing it.
The celebration will feature community leaders including actor and comedian Naim Lin, Hillside Police Officer Lashonda Burgess-Mason, New Brunswick NAACP’s Bruce Morgan, Rutgers University’s Yolanda Jackson, and Rev. Chelena Dale-Rawls. The contributions of six individuals will be honored. , Charlene Nicholson of the New Jersey Innovation Institute.
Founded in 1909, the NAACP remains one of the nation’s oldest civil rights organizations, dedicated to advancing justice in areas such as education, health care, and the economy.
