A homeowner wants help protecting his tree. But it’s noisy neighbors, not environmental hazards, that are causing the problem.
On the r/treelaw subreddit, a person asked the community for help after sharing an upsetting sight of a tree on his property being cut down by a neighbor without permission or reason. Photos show the stumps of damaged saplings being trampled by branches, and additional photos linked to the post show chainsaws cutting haphazardly and branches strewn everywhere.

“I called the sheriff’s office non-emergency line and reported the incident. What else was there to do? Our main goal was to prevent him from creating any more instances of trespassing. (This is not the first time, but this is the first time I have evidence of damage to the tree),” the homeowner wrote, adding that he also had a photo of the assailant with a chainsaw in his hand. They also said they spoke with law enforcement and confirmed that the tree was “definitely on my land.”
Cutting down mature, healthy trees has a negative impact on the environment. According to the Arbor Day Foundation, a mature tree removes 48 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in a year, releasing oxygen in its place. It also cleans your drinking water, keeps the planet cool, and helps with your overall mental health. Photos shared by the homeowner indicate that the tree was in a wooded area on the property, and unnecessary removal would impact critical habitat for birds, squirrels, and other wildlife that act as pollinators. This means that there is a high possibility that it was given.
The comments section of the post was filled with useful advice for homeowners looking to protect their property, privacy, and plants.
They said law enforcement spoke with their neighbors and told them not to come to their property again, so one person suggested several ways to follow up. “As a next step, we believe you can send a certified letter stating that he is not welcome on your property and seek legal redress if further damage occurs,” they wrote. “No trespassing signs can also be erected along roads,” it added. You can get trail cameras to monitor your property lines. ”

Another suggested adding a fence if possible, saying, “Even if they can easily walk around or step over, it reminds them not to do something.” It just creates a psychological barrier, and for most people, that’s enough to be mean. There’s no excuse for not noticing the trespassing.”
