“In the rush to get needed property tax relief for Nebraskans, many Nebraskans will not have the opportunity to collect the 2023 property tax credit when they file their 2024 income tax return late next year. State senators inadvertently nullified the error, which occurred when the Legislature passed LB 34 during a special session of the Legislature in August of this year.
This problem can be easily fixed by passing legislation early next year. We believe that Nebraskans are entitled to a credit for the property taxes they owe in 2023, and that emergency legislation can and should be passed in early January 2025 to address this oversight. I’m thinking.
A bill to correct the errors contained in LB 34 has been drafted and is expected to be introduced by Sen. Brian Hardin of Gering (LD48) in January 2025. We now encourage all Nebraskans to start contacting their state senators and support this important legislation. next year’s bill. We believe that good citizens of Nebraska should not have to shoulder the financial burden created by Congress.
Although State Sen. Erdman will not return to Congress next year due to term limits, we, the undersigned, are signing the 2025 Act to restore lost 2023 property tax credits rightfully owed to Nebraska taxpayers. Support the bill of the month. ”
